Artist: Harline
Title: Live At The Gods 2002
   Label: Now And Then Records

This is the third release from the Gods 2002 and the obvious difference from the two previous is the sound quality. The sound on the night was actually quite good, so the final result is surprisingly not as good as the other two live releases (Harem Scarem and Jeff Scott Soto).

Johnny Giselle’s vocals seem to lose some of the oomph that the actual show produced on the day. But having said that, the album is still is a must for all Hardline fans. For those that were there it will serve as a nice reminder of a great performance, even if it has lost somewhat of its sparkle on the album. I don’t know if the inclusion of the intro by Pandora (she mentioned that the band were jet lagged) was meant to be included in the final release or was put there as an after thought after the poor sound quality.

The three bonus tracks are a welcome additional to the album ‘Hypnotised’ is very reminiscent of early Hagar / Montrose with a bluesy feel to it. ‘Only a Night’ is performed acoustically and is a great rendition a moody ballad from the bands last album. ‘Mercy’ is another mostly acoustic track and is very Robert Plant-ish in its concept.

If you are a Hardline fan then I suggest you get a copy of this album if only for the sentimental value. If you’re not then I suggest that you go purchase the bands studio albums as this album just doesn’t do the band justice.
