The
opening track of this album 'Look right through Me' has Harem Scarem's
lead singer Harry Hess signing … you don't even known I'm alive. As a
newbie to this lad and his wonderful vocals I have to say that once
heard, never forgotten.
Since seeing Harem Scarem perform at The Gods 2002 festival, I have
taken every opportunity to listen to as much material by this band as
possible. This master of melodic rock really does have a wonderfully
distinct voice and with it he brings forth such gems as you'll hear on
this album. It's hard to believe someone so wonderfully gifted could
only just be bringing out his first solo album. Anyone who lapped up the
Harem Scarem album 'Weight of the World' will no doubt be delighted with
this latest offering by Mr. Hess.
For me the timing couldn't have been better because the weather in good
old England has just blossomed into summer and this album really does
beg to be played loud in the car with the windows wound down and the
window blowing softly in your face. It's a feel good album that's simply
bursting with great tracks that will have you singing along from start
to finish. The last album to put me into such a sunshine mood was Giants
III album. I played that album so much I thought the CD would burst into
flames! Well this album has had much the same effect on me, I love it to
bits. In fact I simply can't get enough of it!
Work colleagues have stopped me more than once to ask what the songs are
that I've been wandering around humming at work. It's addictive songs
like 'Everybody', 'Why', and 'Sentimental Blvd' that bring out the
backing singer in me. Oh yeh, pity the person who pulls up beside me in
a traffic jam when I'm in full flow to these little beauties. There's
full flow singing and even arms waving about frantically as I really get
down to some serious musical appreciation! Yes, I'm a crazy loon, but
thanks to this CD I'm joyfully happy crazy loon!
If you like softer, more melodic ballads, then there's plenty of stuff
on here to please you too. Not too slushy, just sentimental and
thoughtful enough to reach the senses other ballads don't quite reach.
If you're familiar with Harem Scarem then you'll probably have already
bought this album because you know it's going to be a top quality
offering by this golden boy of melodic rock and his voice. If however
you're not familiar with the band then give it a listen. This CD is
definitely once of the best albums I've heard so far this year and just
goes to prove that pure talent will always shine through
