It always amazes me the
wealth of musical talent out there and when this talent goes unheard of
it’s simply a crime. So Escape have continue to do their bit in
bringing to the forefront the best of the new talent and once again they
have found another gem of a band in the form of Highest Dream.
When I say band Highest Dream the band is actually the work of just two individuals, Riq Ferris on lead and backing vocals and the multi faceted talent that is Leo Mendes, who does pretty much everything else on the album; guitars; keys; drums and backing vocals, although the pair have brought in some of Brazilian wonders in the shape of guitar players Marcelo Nami, John Cassio and Marcio Loueiro, to help. This pair have put together a Melodic Rock album of the highest calibre and one that ticks all the boxes for the genre with great songs, great melodies and a great vocal, all of which rate highly amongst the best I’ve heard from the genre this year. The album touches upon such bands like Asia, Kansas, Journey and the like and opens up proper after the intro with ‘Restless Dreamer’. Straight away that eighties feel that made the genre such a phenomena is brought rushing back, more noticeably perhaps because of the stunning vocals of Ferris. That same familiar friendly vibe is carried on throughout the entire album with such stunning tracks like ‘Can't Fight Hearts’, the very Journey-esque ‘Helpin’ Hand’, although track of the album for me has to be the rockin ‘All I Want’, in which Ferris shows he could really give Jon Bon Jovi a run for his money. If you long for those by by-gone days of great Melodic Rock then you will be in for a treat with this new album. Your Melodic Rock prayers have been well and truly answered with 'Far Away From Here'.
