In
2004 Human Zoo came into being as vocalist
Thomas Seeburger, guitarist Ingolf Engler and keyboarder Zarko Mestrovic
got together to bring something new the world of Melodic/Hard Rock, as
they brought in Markus Ratheiser (Glenmore) on the bass, and Kevin
Klimesch on the drums and more significantly Boris Matakovic (Subway)
on the saxophone. In
2006 the band released their critically acclaimed debut ‘Precious
Time’, this was followed some 16 month later by the equally well
received ‘Over The Horizon’. Now in 2011 the band are back,
and I must say better than ever, with their stunning third album ‘Eyes
Of The Stranger’. The
album is just good rocking from the off as thing get underway with the
intro 'Amy', as the child answers the door and looks into the "Eyes
Of The Stranger", before the album proper gets underway with the
rocking ‘The Answer’. Immediately the good time, hard
rock just ignites the airwaves with pure melody, as Seeburger vocals
tower above the superb guitars of Engler, before the saxophone of Matakovic
brings a whole new feel to proceedings. A real gem of an opener
that sets the standard for the rest of the album to follow. And
follow it does and surpasses with the excellent ‘Gimme Your
Time’. A little edgier than the opener but still a corking
rocker to get your teeth into. Just think Fair Warning meets The
Poodles with a saxophone and you won't be far away with this one. Things
keep going with ‘To The Top’, as Matakovic
gets this one underway before the more traditional Hard Rock guitar take
this one to the next level. Then the tempo is brought down a touch
with the more gentle melodic tones of the ballad ‘Everything
Changes’, before picking things back up with the excellent title track
‘Eyes Of The Stranger’. A real classy slice of Melodic Rock
that will please the die-hard fans of the genre. But
if you like something with a bit more bite than check out the superb
‘Fall In Love’ and the impressive ‘Worlds Behind You’, two great
slices of Hard Rock that just ooze class. Speaking
of class it's back to the more refined gentle tones with the second
ballad of the album 'Hold & Care’, which is where Matakovic’s saxophone
really comes into its own and adds that extra special feel to the album
that only a saxophone can and enhances this already haunting melody. The
band return to the rock for the foot tapping ‘Want It – Love It -
Like It’, before shifting up a gear for ‘Welcome To Paradise’. The
album closes with the outstanding ’10.000 Years Ago’, a real riff
filled Hard Rock opus to round off what is another great album from
Human Zoo. This band just get better album after album and this is
most definitely their finest release to date. |
