Artist: Hypocrisy
   Title: Virus
   Label: Nuclear Blast Records

Virus is the latest release from metal guru Peter Tagtgren, s Hypocrisy and with this latest album Hypocrisy have gone back to their Death Metal beginnings. Tagtgrens pedigree in this genre is without equal and although the bands album Catch 22 he delved in various changes in direction with the sound the last album 'The Arrival' they started to get back to basics, and with this latest album Virus its more of the same but this time its taken to another level of excellence.

The album opens up with a monstrous intro that leads into the gut wrenching 'Warpath' a track that will take hold of your very being and take you to the darkest depth of Hades and back, and so the seed has been sown for what is a thunderous return to for Hypocrisy.

The guitar frenzied 'Scrutinized' is Death Metal in its purest form with its speed driven guitars and extreme vocals. The extreme vocal content of album reaches new heights on 'Craving For Another Killing'.

Things slow down as much as they can on a Death Metal release with 'Let The Knife Do The Talking' and 'A Thousand Lies' this deliberate down pacing is only the calm before the storm before the intensity of 'Incised Before I've Ceased' is released upon the listener, 'Compulsive Psychosis' is another hard-hitting track that shows off the complexity of Tagtgrens talents. The final track 'Living To Die' has to be my favourite track off the album as it brings you down to earth with its almost sombre undertones and almost seems out of place compared to the rest of the album but still this remains to be my favourite track as I'm still an old softy at heart.
