Title: The Beast Awakens

Label: Frontiers Music Srl

Yes, it’s that guy, James Durbin, the one that went on American Idol with Judas Priest.  Since his appearance on the popular TV show Durbin has dabbled here and there without really finding his place, until now that is …

'The Beast Awakens' is his first solo led project and has showcases some glimmers of a promising career.

Durbin is an old school metal head and wears his influences on his sleeve throughout the record.  Nods towards Ronnie James Dio are featured on ‘Sacred Mountains’ and ‘Riders on the Wind’.  If its not blatantly obvious Durbin is a massive Judas Priest fan and does his best Halford’esqe shrieks throughout, just not as well executed (no offence).  Metal cliché’s are plentiful in ‘By the Horns’ but still prove to be an enjoyable route. Semi-ballad ‘Battle Cry’ and the rock driven ‘Into the Flames’ hold their own ground too.

Overall, this record won't be breaking new ground or starting sell out tours, but it’s a pretty decent stab at a solo effort.
