After
a very disappointing look at what's on offer by some of the so called
'good-time' rock bands currently releasing new material these days, I
decided to go back to my roots and seek out the God of good time songs.
Yes Mr Idol is his name and good times is his game.
He always was a feel good, party animal, tainted love kinda guy and this
was reflected all the way in the songs he released. Pick any Billy Idol
track and stick it on at a party of club, I guarantee you the floor will
be filled within seconds. Imagine my delight to find that Mr Idol, my
idol, has a new offering on the shelves, not only that but a bargain a
the price of it as it's crammed packed with all those delicious tracks I
loved from his back catalogue.
Songs like White Wedding are given a revamp and come back sounding fresh
and as tasty as ever. This is an album that you don't just want to buy a
copy for yourself. This is an album you want to buy a copy for all your
friends for Christmas. You know it'd make you Mr/Mrs popular. But hell
why wait till Christmas? Get a few copies in and give em to all those
pals that have lost their way and forgotten what fun is all about.
To try and pick out highlights on this album would simply be impossible,
you already know the songs so why do you need me to tell you all about
them. However particular gems on here are 'Flesh for Fantasy' which
strangely enough takes me back to the days when both men and women
actually made an effort with their appearance. No, it wasn't in this
millennium! I remember the days when it took men longer to preen
themselves for a night on the tiles than it did their partners in crime.
The chicks looked cute and the guys looked hot.
Those were the days when you really did look across a crowded dance
floor and fall head over heels for the guy with the smouldering eyes and
the small tight butt. Jackie Collins had nothing on those crazy nights.
This song whisks you back to those days and many happy memories of late
nights and early mornings. Of closing times when we spilled out into the
streets from some club or other and cold night air caught our breath as
we kissed our lovers goodbye. Those were the days, indeed they were.
'To be a Lover' is given what can only be described as the Sigue Sigue
Sputnik meets Elvis treatment. Electro-bop combined with a shake of the
hips and a sneer on the lips. Simply scrumptious.
I won't go any further and spoil the delights this album has to offer by
telling you what how the remixes have spiced up the old gems. All I'm
gonna say it get this album, buy it today. It will be one of the very
few CD's in your collection that will never date and will always sound
good when you play it. Whether it's a sunny day and you want something
to listen to in the car, or whether it's a Friday night and you're
getting ready to go out. The weekend begins here, in fact to listen to
this album you'd think the weekend was 24/7. There's very few albums I'd
go as far as to say they are a must for every CD collection, but Vital
Idol is most definitely a vital part of anyone's collection. I LOVE
IT!!!!!!
