Artist:  Job For A Cowboy
   Title: Gloom
   Label: Metal Blade Records

This is the new EP from the death metal outfit from Arizona.  Available digitally and physically by mail order only, it features four tracks of new death metal from these guys. It also includes the new and invigorated line-up, including new guitarist Tony.

After a VERY short intro, the album gets into its death metal groove early, with brutal speedy guitars and the gravelly tone of the vocals, which usually get higher or lower dependant on whether a growl or a screech is needed.  This really shows off the vocal ability of the band, and this is very well matched against the fast, hard and harsh instrumentals – including a recurrent bass riff and the crash of cymbals taking control between verses.

The ebb and flow of the instrumental is obviously controlled by the vocals.  They both work together, with one filling the gap as the other leaves.  The guitar work is sublime, with constant running up and down the fret board to cover the repeated chords that work so well within the riffs.  The second track opens with a slightly less expected drum solo, that is filled out by the other instruments and then by the vocals quickly and easily.  Job For A Cowboy are the epitome of death metal in the industry today, and there are NO substitutes for the style and ease of playing they exhibit throughout.
