Artist: Kings Of Modesty
   Title: Hell Or Highwater
   Label: Escape Music

Although Kings of Modesty have been around since 1994, they have never released a full album, that is until now.

The band was the brainchild of guitarist Samuel Hjelt and drummer Raino Simoinen.  The two invited friend Henkka Tuura to join them on bass duties and Samuel’s brother Mikael to play keyboards.  At the time the band were called Face of Modesty, and during the bands first year they went through several vocalist’s.  That was until four years ago when Jason Flinck, better known as the bass player and backing vocalist with Nightwish’s guitarist’s Emppu Vuorinen Brother Firetribe, was asked to lay down the bass and become the frontman for the band.  At the same time the band decided to change the name to Kings Of Modesty.

It was in 2007 when Vuorinen produced the bands first EP at his own studio that the ball started rolling for the band.

This debut release is a powerful mix of massive guitar licks a ball busting rhythm section, a titanic keyboard sound and of course the icing on the cake being the tremendous vocals of Flinck.

The album get's off to a fantastic start with the massive ‘Never Touched A Rainbow’, a great opening assault that lays down the foundations for the rest of the album.  A huge track to get the album underway.

This tour de force release continues its monstrous path with the fantastic ‘Hourglass’, again a towering Power Metal attack on the senses.  Powerful and magnificent are an understatement when describing this tracks sound, mammoth is more like it, with Flinck vocals showing a might I haven’t heard in this genre for some time.  Together with the powerhouse rhythm section that just explodes from the off and continues at break neck speed right till the end of this metal masterpiece.

The album is just eleven tracks of pure melodic power infused metal that will just send fans of the genre into absolute ecstasy.  As it continues to impress with the fantastic ‘Deep Down’ and the pummelling title track ‘Hell Or Highwater’, both some of most powerful metal I’ve heard this year.  Even the gentle moments like ‘Once Upon A Time’ and ‘Two Hearts Collide’ are just superb tracks, but if I had to pick out one outstanding track then it would have to be ‘Tailspin’.  This song has it all, bombastic keyboards, a huge guitar sound, a thunderous rhythm section all cemented together with one of the finest metal vocals you will hear this year from Flinck.

This is one band on the fast track to stardom for sure and with the band down as one of the support acts for Tarja later this year, they’re sure to turn heads, and be one of the bands to watch out for in the new year.
