This is the 2010 debut release from Komatoze, a 4 piece metal band from Scotland. Komatoze are heavily influenced by all genres of metal, with thrash and power metal making up a big part of what they play. The guitar-heavy songs enhance the rumble of Paul’s voice, be it in the lower or upper end of his vocal range. In some places it does feel a little strained, but it is only evident on the longer or higher notes. The guitars crescendo throughout, with heavy riffs and easily followed rhythms creating an easy to listen to sound. It is slightly generic but that was the intention of the guys. Since metal has been about for so long there is no real way it can be bettered. Except to take the existing and improve it, as they have done here. The album is a decent length and works as a showcase for their talents and as an introduction to the band. There are no really major flaws on the album, just the generic metal which isn’t really that bad. The guitars and drummer work well together to back and support Paul’s voice, allowing him to work within his range without too much hassle. It’s also nice to hear a tight band playing with passion and power, as is evident here. Favourite songs on the album include 'Arpeggios For You', which has a more electro feel to it, instead of just being plain metal. The intro enhances this feel, and it is carried on throughout the short instrumental. Another favourite is 'One Eleven', which has a softer, melodic feel to it. The song is filled with regret and hurt, and this is emphasised by the lyrics and the softer, slower guitar work. Review
