After a three-year absence from the studio Swedish Melancholy Metallers Lake of Tears once again return to the fold with their new album ‘Moons And Mushrooms’, an album that will put Brennare, Larsson, Oudhuis and new boy Magnus Sahlgren on the rock map once more.

The album itself is a mix of gritty psychedelic heavy guitars and a hard driven rhythm section all intertwined with Bannare’s unique vocals.

Things get underway with ‘Last Purple Sky’ and those heavy dark riff laden tones are instantly recognisable, but it’s the vocals of Brennare that are the standout feature of the whole Lake of Tears sound.  It's not often that you come across a unique vocal sound and that’s exactly what Brennare has.  This track also features the talents of new boy guitarist Sahlgren who has featured with the band as stand in guitarist but now he’s a permanent member and brings with him his streaming guitars to add more bite to the whole Lake of Tears sound for this release.

The deep and often gothic feel continues with ‘Island Earth’, a more sedate track than its predecessor but still in keeping with the whole feel of the album.  The tempo is picked up a touch with ‘You Better Breathe While There’s Still Time’, another riff filled spectacle.

It's back the melancholy metal with the splendid ‘Waiting Counting’ and the haunting ‘Like A Leaf’, which highlights the extraordinary vocals of Brennare as they hit their most darkened low.

Things pick up once more with the Sabbath-esq ‘Children of The Grey’ and the thumping anthem ‘Head On Phantom’, but track of the album for me has to be the bizarrely titled ‘Planet Of The Penguins’.  This track can only be described as an epic with its hard driven bass and drums and Sahlgren’s soaring guitar solo’s making their mark on the listener, as you're driven along on the stream of fret smouldering licks.  This rounds off a quite unique album that fans of the band will just adore and will bring new fans along for the ride.
