Artist: Last Autumn's Dream
   Title: A Touch Of Heaven
   Label: Escape Music

The new year has just started and already there has been a number of outstanding albums to look forward to in January.  One of those albums to rock your world has to be the excellent new album from Last Autumn's Dream entitled ‘A Touch Of Heaven’.

The band led by Mikael Erlandsson is as the title depicts, a real touch of Melodic/AOR heaven with ten superb new tracks and two simply stunning covers.  In total twelve slices of pure melodic pie.

Joining Erlandsson on this new opus are Andy Malecek on guitars, Nally Pahlsson on bass and Jamie Borger on drums.  All names familiar to all the die hard Melodic and Hard Rock fans throughout the world.

After the intro ‘Heaven And Earth' the new album gets off to a great start proper with ‘Caught In Between’.  Right from the off Erlandsson puts his stamp on the album with some great vocals as always and with Malecek producing the goods on the six string, this is great way to open up the album.

The high quality carries on with one of my favourite tracks off the album ‘Top Of The World’, a real top notch rocker which starts off with a monster bass and keyboard intro before Erlandsson’s superb vocals take over.  This one reminds my of the very first time I heard Gotthard and is without a doubt one of the many quality tracks off the album for me.

The album continues to impress with great tracks like ‘Candle In The Dark’, ‘Heartbreaker’ and ‘Last Mistake’, before the first of those two excellent covers firstly it’s Wizard’s ‘See My Baby Jive’, which takes me back to when music was just music and genre’s were just spit into two groups, good music and bad music and this one definitely fell in the first of those two.

It’s back to the original material with ‘Renegade’, a gentle almost ballad like number which Erlandsson’s nails and is another superb slice of Melodic Rock.  Then the tempo is picked up once more with another of my favourites off the album ‘What’s On Your Mind’, a great feel good rocker.

After the majestic tones of ‘How Long’ the second of the covers comes in and excellent almost perfect rendition of Cheap Trick’s ‘Surrender’.  A track which Zander and Co. would approve it may not be all that different to the original but why mess with a classic.

The album closes with the same high quality as the rest of the album firstly with ‘Running On Like Water’, before rounding off the album with the great mid tempo ballad ‘Jennies Eyes’, which is a great way to end what is a great album and one that set’s the bench mark for the rest of the genre to follow.  A real touch of heaven for sure.
