This
year Z records has released the new Eden album and also the D’ercole
release, both great hard rock albums, but not one to take miss a full
advantage of the array of talent appearing on both releases, Mr. A has
put together D’ercole vocalist Phil Vincent and Eden guitarist Vince
O’Regan, along with Dianno’s Gavin Cooper on bass and fellow Dianno
member Steve Hopgood on drums, for what has to be one of the finest
albums to come out of Z Records stable for many a year. Legion
is hard rock at its finest, with Vincent sounding like a young Kip
Winger and O’Regan doing what he does best on the six string, while
Cooper and Hopgood lay down a solid rhythm section that whole Legion
sound is built upon. The
album gets off to a fantastic start with ‘Leave Me Alone’, with
O’Regan coming out of the corner swinging while Vincent powers out a
great hard rock vocal. The tempo and feel of the album is pure
Hard Rock gold from beginning to end as the album continues to impress
with the excellent ‘Trouble’. This is old school rock at its
finest, big riffs from O’Regan, a thunderous back beat all interwoven
with Vincent’s fine vocals. The
tempo is brought down just a touch with ‘Caught In The
Madness’. The guitars on this one are so meaty they'll make a
vegetarian weep, then it's back to the riff spewn Hard Rock with the
superb ‘Coming For You’ and one of personal favourites off the album
the stirring ‘Someday’. It's
all guns blazing once more with the stunning ‘Never Be The
Same’. This one really hits hard and fast as O’Regan lights up
the fret board big style on this one. Another of my favourites off
the album has to be the multi-layered ‘Where Were You’, where
Vincent really shines vocally, but it’s Hopgood and Cooper that really
beef up this one with some excellent bass and drum work. On
‘Too Late’ O’Regan lays down the big chunky riffs while Vincent
wails like he was born to do, again very Wingeresque. The tempo is
brought back down a touch once more with the melodic ‘Deceiver’
before being brought back up with the hard edged ‘All The Way’. The
album boasts a European bonus track in ‘Damage Done’, which rounds
off a great Hard Rock album and one that will make the Hard Rock
community sit up and take notice for sure. As I said before, this
is one of the best albums to come out of Z Records for a long time and
with the band signed up for a five album deal I can't wait for next
album. Definitely one to watch out for. |
