Last
year Z Records main man Mark Alger brought together D’ercole guitarist
Phil Vincent and Eden’s Vince “Dodgy” O’Regan, for what I thought
was the best album to come out of the Z Records stable for some time.
Now in 2011 the combination is once again back together with Gavin
Cooper on bass and fellow Dianno member Steve Hopgood on drums, for
another stunning slice of pure gold hard rock with their second release
‘Code Of Honour’. This
album is bursting to the brim with big guitars riffs and monster licks
from O’Regan and powerhouse rhythms from Cooper and Hopgood, but
it’s the angst Kip Winger styled vocals of Vincent that really bring
the edge to all the tracks on the album. Which
gets underway in emphatic style with ‘Steal The Show’ which opens up,
and I mean opens up, with a full throttle riff from O’Regan and never
eases off, plus that solid back rhythm of monster bass and thumping drums
are there before the Vincent delivers those sterling Hard Rock vocals.
A real
ballsy opener that once again shows Legion are here to rock your very
foundations. There
no time to get your breath back as the hard rockin’ just keeps on
coming with the stunning ‘Long Way Down’, a real hard rock monster
again big riffs a plenty from O’Regan and big drum and bass presence
from the Dianno pair. This solid rhythm section foundation makes its
presence felt on the excellent anthemic rocker ‘Riding On The Wind’
and also on the massive ‘Down In Flames’. But
where the band really excels is in the big guitar tracks and one track
that really stands out is the thumping hard rocker ‘Living With The
Past’ again another stellar hard rock song. The band does show their
more gentle side from time to time as they deliver a great old school
power ballad in ‘Love Ain't The Same’. Its
back to the harder edged rock with the riff filled ‘All Is Forgiven’
and the rampaging out of control ‘Freight Train’ where O’Regan
just sets the fret board on fire and Vincent delivers a powerhouse vocal
equal to it, this is one of my favourite tracks off the album, it just
rocks big style The
tempo is brought back down a touch with the melody rich ‘Take Your
Time’ before it time to step back on the throttle for the tremendous
Winger-esque ‘Liar’, all this before the album closes as it started
with an all out rocker in ‘Hard Times’. If you
like me were blown away by the self titled debut album, be prepared for
the second bombardment as once again Legion bring some of the best Hard
Rock I’ve heard so far this year, I for one can't wait to see them live at this
years Z Rock 2011. |
