t’s not that often that I do single reviews, but when the band are locals I thought I should give this a whirl. Jacks Dream is the first single from Lovemat, a band based in and around Newcastle, although the band prefer to say they come from a place called Disturbia(!), a state of mind rather than a geographic place. Having caught them live recently at a Band of the Bands contest the single deserved a listen if nothing else. The bands sound is described as Psychotic Punk, a mix of modern pop punk and stoner rock. ‘Jacks Dream’ is a good ballsy song that infuses the likes of Rocket From The Crypt with The Kaiser Chiefs to form some sort of weird pop rock to great effect. The second track ‘The Battle of Falcon Hill’ is a somewhat shorter track and is strange mix of police sirens and electro bass that I feel is perhaps just a filler till the new album is released in July, and the band don’t what to give much away when it comes to the new albums sound.
