Widely known on the York music circuit, Lux Perpetua offer a look at life
from the seedy side of the tracks.
This four track CD is just a sample of what really goes on inside the
minds of a lot of young rock fans. Dark, Moody, Shocking, it's full of
contempt for life today.
If I were to put Lux Perpetua into some sort of musical genre (that seems
to be the norm nowadays) then it would have to be Dark Goth. Lux Perpetua
will probably not appeal to the older crowd who are stuck in their ways a
bit, but their young offspring will be driving them mad with similar
undertones blasting from their bedrooms.
Though only four tracks long, you get a feel for the band and where they
are coming from. Deliberate vocal style won't have you singing along to
all the songs but it will have you wondering just how disturbed can a
person's mind be?
'Fashionable Misery' tells us the tale of the frustration the youth of
today feels. Singing of depression and self-mutilation it reminds me of
those cheerful tunes The Smiths used to sing many years ago. Only this
time it's every parent's nightmare…
'Porn' tells the tale of … well Porn! Something most young men (and
women!) have had a great deal of experience with at some point in their
lives. Blatantly honest it forces you into admitting how you really feel
about it. It's not nice, but hey it's true!
'You' has a wonderful sound to it. It's probably the most addictive track
out of the whole lot. This is definitely one track that must go down
well at their live gigs. The whole feel of the song is charged, fast and
very appealing.
'Lazy' is a song that will be banned from first play in most households.
Full of cursing and swearing it has quite an aggressive punkish feel to
it.
If you are under 20 and want to discover a band that thinks the same
disturbing things that you do, then these guys are for you! If you do get
it, you'd better hide it because your parents are going to hate it big
time.
The Mary Whitehouse brigade will not be setting up a fan club for these
spirited young men.
