As described in the sleeve notes ‘Revolution’ is the concept of … if you
could do things differently, would you if you had the chance to risk the
wrath of your peers and fans would you take that chance?
Well Lynch Mob have done just that and taken tracks from the band members
history and reworked them giving them a new lease of life, whether they
needed it or not. George Lynch has always said that when he, Jeff Pilson
and Mick Brown got together, the sound they put together was always much
heavier and edgier than what came across on the finished albums and now
they’ve had a chance to go back and remedy all the stuff that was lacking
20 years ago.
The new versions of the classics have definite got a grittier edge as you
can tell from the almost speed metal ‘Tooth & Nail’. A track with so much
more bite than the original. ‘Tangled in the Web’ has also been given a
greater punchy guitar feel. Even the classic ‘Kiss of Death’ doesn’t
escape and is almost unrecognizable from the opening few chords. Yes you
will have that feeling of I know this one but do I? It’s not until the
chorus that you realize what song this is.
But if you stick with the album and don’t get to absorbed in the past and
take every track as a new track and not on what they sounded like before,
then this is a great album and if this is you first taste of Lynch Mob
then you will be impressed.
You have to be impressed with the band to go ahead with such a venture and
to do it in such a way that they might alienate a lot of their older fans.
But I’m sure that given time they will, like me, grow to enjoy playing
this album and then playing the original versions and comparing both and
finding each version has its place in the history of the band.
