Artist: Lyu
   Title: From Something To Nothing
   Label:Lockjar Records

Hot on the heels of their showcase performance at last years National Rock and Pop Festival at the NEC in Birmingham, young British Punk/Pop Metal hopefuls Lyu are about to release their new EP ‘From Something To Nothing’ on Lockjaw Records.

The band, whose average age is sixteen, have produced a five-track EP worthy of a band of more mature years.  The EP is a mix of Americana Punk mixed with some melodic metal undertones based around the guitars of Bob Taylor and frontman Drew Masters.  This four piece are a breath of fresh air to these old ears.  It's great to hear a young band attain their own sound and sway away form the Emo culture that the youth of Britain have embraced with such alarming affection.

Things get underway with ‘Mutant X’, a track that starts off from humble beginnings but slowly builds into a flurry of guitars and drums all wrapped around the amazing, sometimes haunting vocals of Masters.

The EP continues its Punk/Metal hybrid sound with ‘Tonight’, another guitar laden track that sways more to the metal side of the bands sound, with just a hint of punk guitar thrown in.  If I had to pick a favourite off the EP then this one gets my vote.

‘Fallen From Grace’ goes back to the more punchy sound and is one than is very much inline with what is getting played on Scuzz and Kerrang TV at the moment.

The pace is picked up once more with my choice as a possible single, ‘Easily’ is the most commercial of all the songs on the EP and for that fact alone makes it an obvious single choice.

The EP comes to a close with ‘Hold On’ another guitar filled track that rocks big time and closes what is a very impressive EP, and when you consider the average age of the band, it makes even more of an impression!
