Those
who say Melodic Rock is an old man genre haven’t heard some of the new
breed of young bands making their mark on the fans, some of those
already making headway in 2010. This trend is set to continue in 2011 if
the first batch of albums for release in this new year are anything to
go by. One such band that you should all take note of are
Sweden’s Miss Behaviour, who first hit the ground running in 2006 with
their debut full length release ‘Heart Of Midwinter’. Since
then the band have had a few line-up changes as frontman Sebastian Roos
and Ander Berlin join founding members Erik Heike and Henrik Sproge to
carry on where 'Heart of Midwinter' left off. 'Last
Woman Standing' is a great Melodic Hard Rock opus that just oozes class,
with vocalist Roos the band have a class act who has a set of pipes that
were made for this style of music. It's
clear to hear why the band shared the stage with the likes of The
Poodles and H.E.A.T in 2010, as they have a similar vibe that should
make many fans of both bands check them out for this reason alone. But
back to the album itself the pure gold Melodic Rock continues with
‘Cynthia’, again Roos takes the helm but it’s the guitar work of
Helkne that makes this one hit the mark, with big licks and towering
riffs that add that edgy feel that I just love. The
melodies and hooks just keep coming with the stunning ‘Give Her A
Sign’, before one of the tracks of the album for me, the simply
outstanding ‘Perfect War’. A little heavier than what has gone
before but a great track all the same and one which features Roland
Grapow of Masterplan fame, so it gets my vote for that fact alone. For the
purest fans of the genre the likes of ‘Average Hero’, the haunting
‘Till We Meet Again’ and ‘Living The Dream’ will be right up
your street, but if you're into the likes of Survivor then ‘Taking
Hostage’ will float your boat. If I
had to pick out track from the multitude of fine songs one the album
that stands out from the crowd then it would have to be the seven minute
masterpiece and title track ‘Last Woman Standing’, which sees Roos
dueting with Kajsa Berg. This is the first track I’ve heard that
matches up to my favourite album of 2010 Kiske/Somerville, such is the
quality of this song. The
album could have finished there and I wouldn’t have complained but the
album has one more ace up its sleeve in the hard rocker splendour named
‘11th Hour’, which wraps up a great album that is sure to
get the band noticed in 2011. |
