When it comes to iconic rock bands they don’t come any bigger than Motorhead. When the band first broke who would have thought that the band would have lasted so long, let alone release some 23 albums and now here comes album number 24 entitled ‘Motorizer’. This album is pure Motorhead all the way groove ridden high octane rock n' roll with the immortal Lemmy Kilmister at the helm with Phil Campbell churning out the licks like the mad axeman he is and the powerhouse drumming of Mikkey Dee, this is MOTORHEAD so be prepared to be mowed down by the Motorizer! The album gets underway in typical Motorhead style with ‘Runaround Man’, with Lemmy’s Jack Daniel’s soaked vocals being the backbone of the band, with Campbell and Dee just adding their own tremendous styles that has become the meat and bones of the band for some 33 years. Some vocalists voices fade over the years but this certainly can't be said about Lemmy, he never had a voice to loose. Those gravel soaked vocal chords have never sounded as mighty as they do on the likes of ‘Teach You How To Sing The Blues’ and the thumping ‘When The Eagle Scream’ with Campbell whipping up a virtual six string storm on this one. The speed rocking anthems have always been a part of the Motorhead scene and this album keeps this tradition going with the bass fuelled ‘Rock Out’. Anyone who loves the likes of 'Bomber' and 'Overkill' will just weep at the splendour of this no holds barred rocker. The pace is brought down a touch with the groove filled ‘One Short Life’ before the pulsating ‘Buried Alive’, another real slice of pure Motorhead brilliance as only they can. ‘English Rose’ again shows the band can put together a good tune. This is another heavy bass grooved track that again shows Campbell in great form as he puts together the licks that some bands find hard to put down with two guitarists. With some bands you can say they’ve gone back to their roots with this new album but Motorhead have always been Motorhead, they might have tried a little experiment with the ‘Another Perfect Day’ album, but for other 22 albums and this new one, this is what we expect from Lemmy and the rest of the band as they continue with ‘Back On The Chain’ and the magnificent heavy metal assault that is ‘Heroes’. The hard rocking never ceases (well this is Motorhead) as the album comes to close with the towering ‘Time Is Right’, before one of the best Motorhead tracks I’ve heard for years the magnificent ‘The Thousand Names Of God’, a track rounds off probably the best Motorhead album for fifteen years or more. Many bands
have been influenced by the band over the years but none has been able
to copy the full force Hard Rockin’ of the most legendary rock band in
the last 40 years and no will long live MOTORHEAD. |
