Another band hotly tipped for stardom are My Alamo. The band consist of James Rigby vox/guitars, Zach Beckett guitars, Dijg Simpson bass and completing the line-up Dan Baumanis on drums. The band have only been together for some eighteen months but during those eighteen months the band has bonded well together and have achieved a unity that other bands don’t find for years. They display a maturity of song writing that I haven’t heard from a new band in some time and mixed with their own dynamic riff spewn sound, the band have that extra something that makes them standout from the herd. The album opens up with ‘My Friend Said’, an infectious mix of heady guitar riffs mixed with Rigby’s fine vocals make this the perfect opener for the album, and so it goes on with the driven guitar sound of ‘Pornography’, a mix between The Manics and Terrorvision here. 'In The Blood’ carries on the riff filled guitar sound before the superb ‘1994’ which is the first single to be taken off the album. This is another superb guitar based track but with the drums of Baumanis coming through the wave of guitars to great effect. ‘I’m Not The Enemy’ takes you back to the Seattle scene with this Nirvana styled guitar melancholy with Rigby doing his best Cobain impression on this one. The slight hint of melancholy continues with the Radiohead infused ‘Suffocate Me’, but all this moody stuff is thrown to one side in the blink of an eye as the tempo picks up once more with one of my favourites from the album the anthemic ‘Fire It Up’. The high tempo is continued with the Edge like guitars on ‘Dirty Water’, this is another high point on this very impressive debut and things just continue to impress with pop punk sounds of ‘I Get Me’ and the hard licks of ‘Arabella’s Dying’. The album
closes with ‘The Undisguised’ with its full on guitar sound and some
fine solo’s. It has everything, catchy chorus, a beat to die for
and is so commercially viable and rounds off a great album.
Considering the band have only been together for 18 months imagine what
they are capable of a few years down the line! |
