Orange Goblin is back! This is the seventh album for these guys but the first for their new label Candlelight Records. This Brit-based band have been rocking the live metal scene for the past 17 years with their own brand of balls-out, booze-fuelled, party starting metal. Inspired by the greats of rock and metal, including Black Sabbath and Motorhead, their move from stoner rock to full metal band has been propelled by their expertise as a live band. They pull no punches and this album is no exception! The album burst into life with an intro that just builds upon itself, adding in intensity musically until the sweet, grungy yet heavy vocals bombast into life. Everything on this album is perfect, from the guitars to the rhythm provided by the drums, even to the entrance of the vocalist on every track. The hook and riff from every song is addictive, the guitar fronted by the vocals as it pulls you in deeper and deeper to the slightly slower, but still intense power of stoner metal. The recurrent riffs and the obvious skill from all musicians show their depth of skill, not only musically but mixing wise. These guys know what work for them and they do it sublimely and fault free. The riffs are addictive, especially when mixed with the vocals and the irrepressible rhythm section provided by the sublimely talented bassist and drummer, who beef up the sounds and creates richness often lacking nowadays. I don’t have any one favourite track, I love the whole album. I love the stoner metal groove and the light slowness that creeps free once in a while. I love the crashing guitars mixed perfectly with the impressive vocals. I love the way the rhythm section is heard throughout. Review
