In
the late 80’s and 90’s, Californian born Paul Sabu was a welcome
guest at many writing and recording session of other artists. He has
written, recorded, performed with, or produced albums for such
luminaries as David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Little Caesar, Lee Aaron,
Madonna, Malice, Robbie Neville, Silent Rage, The Nelsons, Shania Twain,
John Waite and Wasp, to name but a few, as well as numerous film and TV
soundtrack credits. Now in 2011 we see a little of
the music Sabu was involved in over the
years with the release of 'Call Of The Wild', which is just an aperitif to
the main course, which is a brand new studio album due out in 2012, and a headline
appearance at next years Z Rock Festival already penciled in, this will
be the very first time that Paul has played live in the UK. This
album is just 16 tracks of pure Sabu magic from the opener
‘Angeline’ right through to the final track ‘Spitfire’, and I defy
any fans of great Melodic and Hard Rock not to find something that gets
the old juices flowing Just
take the stunning ‘I Believe In You’, the stunning hard-edged
‘Cherie’ and the all out Hard Rock of ‘Mad Dog’, there are so
many elements to this album that showcases perfectly what a fabulous talent Sabu
is, not only
as songwriter but also as an artist and producer. Some
other tracks to note that will bring memories flooding back of good
times gone by when MTV was about the music and not reality shows include
the
excellent ‘Scream Until You Like It’ that was released by Blackie
Lawless and W.A.S.P. for the Ghoulies II soundtrack, and the stunning
‘Always’, that I think was on constant rotation at MTV ... Ahh those were the
days!. This
is one of the must buy albums of recent years, not only for the
connoisseurs of good melodic rock, but also those of you who remember
when rock music ruled the airwaves and long for those days once again.
I for one can't wait for next years Z Rocks Festival to see Mr Sabu live
in action, I'm sure it’s gonna be a corker. |
