Hailing
from Denmark, Phonomik take the whole Progressive and Power Metal genres
and traditional Metal sound and mix into a power new breed of crunching
metal with dashes of grinding guitar and
mighty rhythm sections, all under the Phonomik moniker. You
get an instant taste of the power and grit of the band from the opener
‘Massacre’. The big guitar sound penetrates the awe-inspiring heady
drums and massive bass lines, but the air of majesty is brought to
forefront when frontman and rhythm guitarist Shane
Dihman takes the lead. The band
really push the genre to the limits with the monstrous 'Mental Fire' and
the down right fantastic 'Infected’. This is modern metal with more
fire in its belly than Satan himself. I just love those chunky guitar
licks and beefy bass tones. The band
have put together an album that really evokes the passion and
reminds me why I love the many facets of the whole Metal scene. With
such great tracks like 'Wake Up The Dead' with its Hard Rock roots, the
menacing old school metal of 'Atmos Fear' and more progressive metal of
'Caveman', this band really bring it on in buckets. The band
bring in the heat big style with the Power Metal spectacle that is the
title track `Soul Creeper’, with the massive guitars of Kenneth
Bergstrøm leading the way, before the band do a complete switch with
the mellow almost ballad like `Life Lies’. A track that rounds off the main
portion of the album, but things don't end there. There are a couple of
bonus tracks on here. First up it's `Broken Son’, a real top end slice of Melodic
Metal, then the closer `Die Alone’, another of my favourite tracks off
the album. A real multifaceted metaller that rounds off an impressive
debut album. As long as there are new young bands producing Metal albums of
this quality then the future of Metal throughout the world is going to
look
stronger than ever |
