This 4 track EP is the first from this London-based death metal/progressive metal quintet. Released on an independent label, this shows what they can really do on and off-stage. After reviewing them for The Arctic Festival, I thought it time to look at their EP and check out more of their songs. The dual guitar wielding of Scott and Ashley open the album, with the sublime talent of Tyrone on drums. Harley rocks the bass throughout, and the instrumental works with and against the vocals. At times the instrumental seems decidedly different against the deep bass rumble of Chris’s voice, but this seems completely intentional. With the vocals and instrumental setting itself at odds from the start, it pulls no punches as the vocal batters through. The first song, 'Age of Men', epitomises their mix of death metal and progressive groove rhythms. The second track, 'Slaughterhouse' sounds more like the death metal we’re used to, although instead of using the heavier, darker screeches associated with death metal, it sticks to a more heavy metal slant. The recurrent riffs and the building of rhythm throughout brings the solo work to the fore with Chris’s deep, rich vocal work the perfect ending to the build. 'Nothing Remains' is again more typically death metal, with the heavy instrumental against the death vocals doing battle. This really works for this EP and this song as the instrumental works closer toward the death metal end of the scale, without the harshness that can usually be heard with other bands. The final track is 'Into The Void', the title track for this EP. Again the mix can be heard, with Chris’s powerful voice leading the last track in. Each of the tracks is a perfectly crafted piece that stands on its own or as part of the EP. These guys have a great future ahead of them if they can keep this up! Review
