Artist: Ram
   Title: Death
   Label: Metal Blade Records

This traditional heavy metal band came to life in 1999 when the lead guitarist decided that enough was enough and he wanted to play metal that he would want to hear.  After recruiting other members to his mission, Ram was born.  This is their third release and their first for Metal Blade Records.  Enlisting the help of two well-known Swedish producers, Ram thought themselves ready to take on the rest of the world (after they conquered Europe, that is).

This album is definitely different from most heavy metal music.  Starting off with an electronic/synth acoustic track, the heavy hard guitars burst into life against a King Diamond-esque sounding vocalist.  His voice takes over the album, forcing the recurrent guitar riffs and heavy drum licks to the background.

The mission to create traditional heavy metal in the style of the granddaddies of heavy metal is accomplished!  This is obvious even within the first track, will full-on drums, expressive guitar solos and the ability to change emotions in one song, from the rough and ready to the more melodic and expressive instrumental work that just shows off skilled musician after skilled musician.

The stand-out instrumental work meshes completely with the constantly shifting vocal ability that flows throughout the album. This is pure traditional heavy metal at its finest!
