Thirteen
years after their first album 'Trouble in Paradise', Don Cromwell, Tommy
Girvin and Rock Hampton return with their new opus ‘Better Days’.
An
album that is mouthwatering Melodic Rock at its finest, from start to
finish, I dare anyone who's into the genre to pick fault with this
release. The
album opens up with the title track ‘Better Days’, a real taste of
what the thirteen years have been missing from the duo. This is what the
genre is all about, good song writing, great musicians and good
production. This
high quality release continues with ‘Stay with Me Tonight’, again top
quality Melodic Rock this time on the gentler side, but still top notch
stuff, before one of the many highlights on the album ‘Learn to be
Alone’. A real touch of the 80’s about this one, something that has
never failed with the fans of the genre. We all love a good power
ballad
and this one will pull at your heart strings. The
album continues to impress with ‘Heaven Knows’ and the excellent
‘Oh Life’ before the pace is picked up a touch with ‘Best Is Yet
to Come’ and the great ‘Party Life’. It's
back to the ballads with ‘Calm Before The Storm’
before bringing it back up once more with another of my personal
favourites ‘High And Mighty’, but track of the album for me has to
be ‘Love in Vain', another track with the 80’s vibe but with a
modern touch. The
album closes another great track ‘In My Dreams’, an atmospheric song
that rounds off a great album. Thirteen years may have gone past since
the bands debut but the wait was well worth it. |
