Artist: Red Circuit
   Title: Homeland
   Label: Limb Music Productions

'Homeland' is the second release from German Prog metallers Red Circuit, following on from their debut album 'Trance State', 'Homeland' is more of the same high quality prog metal the band delivered with the debut.

Opening up with the title track 'Homeland' it's straight into the groove filled metal as Chity Somapala delivers the goods vocally, along with Chris Moser on guitar firing on all six cylinders, while keyboardist and band founder Markus Teske punches out the keyboard rhythms, while the back bone rhythm section of Thomas Schmitt on bass and Andy Klein in drums deliver a sterling foundation for the track.

After the assault on the senses of the opener things slow down a touch with 'The World Forgotten Sons'.  As this one opens with a gentle keyboard intro provided by Teske you feel a certain familiarity between the band and Dream Theatre, but only for a moment because the band have developed their own brand of Prog Metal, that powers on through with an originality that will make those not familiar with the band sit up and take notice of one of the best prog metal bands around at the moment.

The album continues with one the finest slices of prog metal I’ve heard in quite a while with 'Sun Of Utopia'.  This is where Teske and Somapala combine so well while the rest of the band wait to ignite into action and when all the elements combine you’re just blown away by the splendour of the track.

The pace is picked up once again with the Threshold like of 'Through The Eyes Of A Child', a rampaging keyboard and guitar infused assault that just rocks from note one and never relinquishes till the final one.  Superb stuff indeed.

It’s back to the mellow tones once more with 'Absinth', again Somapala the shining light of the track with some superb vocals before the keyboards and guitars powering on through, as the track develops into another masterpiece.

'Fall In The Skies' and 'Healing Waters' again deliver a punch rhythm that is very Threshold like before the riff-laden masses of another of my favourite track 'Canonize Your Sins'.  A massive anthemic prog metal powerhouse that again shows what a great sound this band have.

The final two tracks show both the grandiose side and the bands mellower sides first is the grandiose tones of 'See The Light', before the album closes with the excellent 'You Can Sleep When You're Dead', featuring some of the best vocals from Somapala on the whole album and one that rounds off a great album and shows that Germany is not all Metal and shredding guitars, there are some great prog metal bands out there and one of them is Red Circuit.
