Artist: Reef
   Title: Waster
   Label: Reef Music

This is a band who for many are only recognized by one single, the one and only one a lot of the clubs seems to have added to their roster's many years ago and never removed. I'll not tell you which one because I'm sure you all know which one I'm referring to.

Reef burst onto the scene with a flurry of rave reviews. Indeed they went from being unheard of to one of the most requested bands in what seemed a very short space of time. I'm sure their fame and fortune wasn't quite as rapid as it seemed but to many they went from being unknown one minute to sell out gigs the next. They really were rock darlings and even the toughest of rockers would be seen dancing along to their songs in the clubs.

And then they disappeared … or did they? Well their fans stayed true and it was probably this belief in the band and what they could produce that has spurred them on to release this single on their own imprint.

A little heavier than we are used to, this band show just how much they have grown and developed as a mature rock band. With this single they have more than proved that they are able to produce solid catchy tunes that will once again see them play with the big boys once more.

First track on the single is 'Waster' which is very commercial orientated and is sure to set those dance floors alight once more. Funky is the order of the day and this song reminds me so much of early Living in Colour, Fishbone, and even perhaps early Red Hot Chili Peppers. Oh yes, you get the picture and you're gonna enjoy this song.

Now then, here comes that all important second track, and oh boy what a corker it is. The lads have chosen a song I would not have credited them as touching in a million years. It is indeed none other than Black Sabbath's 'War Pigs'. Oh man, this band really has done an excellent job of this cover. Their press release calls this cover 'monumental', and you know what? I have to agree with it. I'm not a great fan of covers, but this one really does get y seal of approval. I bet Ozzy & Co are well chuffed with it too!

Last we have 'Talk To Me', a live track that has been splendidly produced to leave the listener in no doubt that this is one band they'd really enjoy seeing live in action. There's some fabulous guitar bits on this song. I've never actually seen this band live, but going on the strength of this song, if they ever play Newcastle again I guess I'm gonna have to go along just to check out if they really are this good live.

For all you REEF fans out there already, apparently they have no less than 3 versions of this particular single out for release. There's this version, a second version which features 'Waster', 'War Pigs' (Live) and 'Saturday' (Live), and finally a third version which is a CD/DVD single. This includes the 'Waster' promo video plus 4 clips from the forthcoming DVD: 'Come back Brighter', 'End', 'Give me your Love', and 'Naked'.

Oh top of that they also have a full length live DVD available, which was filmed at the bands recent show in Bristol. The DVD also includes exclusive documentary footage from the 'Together' tour as well as an interview with Kerrang and Q magazines Editor-in-chief Phil Alexander. If you're a die-hard fan then I'm sure you're gonna love all this new material the band are putting out for you.

If not then check out this single, it might just surprise you to find out this band aren't a one song band and really do have a hell of a lot going for them! Reef will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. I'm sure if this single is anything to go by, their album is going to see them rocket into the charts once more just like 'Glow' did.
