Artist: Resistance
   Title: Patents Of Control
   Label: Lion Music

This band are new to this reviewer and this their 2nd album has been produced by the band themselves, with legendary producer Neil Kernon overseeing the final mix.  The band feature Robbie Hett, Vocals – Dan Luna, Guitars & Vocals - Dave Watson, selected guitar solos – Paul Shigo, Bass & Vocals and Matt Ohnemus, Drums.

'Patents Of Control' features 11 tight, intense and heavy tracks of traditional metal with a thrash influence.  The story of one man’s obsession to provide humanity with the ideal society.  Free of crime, hunger, poverty, drug addiction and misery.  The lyrical concept focuses on the idea of thought and behaviour control through the use of devices that have actual USA patents.  It further deals with the idea of world illuminati using this information to create a new world order.

Musically the songs are very reminiscent of Iced Earth and 'Master of Puppets'/'Justice For All' era Metallica.  The intro to 'Paternal Shift' and passages in 'The Cleansing' in particular evoke thoughts of 'Battery' and 'Master of Puppets'.  In fact, the guitar tones throughout the album sound like they could have been lifted from 'Master of Puppets'.  Each song is an intense and driven, emanting with dark undertones.  The double bass drums of Matt Ohnemus thundering from the speakers planting a solid bed for the guitars and bass of Dan Luna and Paul Shigo respectively.  Robbie Hett is no James Hetfield or Tim “Ripper” Owens but holds his own throughout the album.

This album is a band continuing to hone and refine their sound and perfect their songwriting.  A master stroke in the making of this album was to have Neil Kernon mix the tracks, which he manages to do with great aplomb.
