Sanction X is the new band that features some of Germany’s finest Rock and Metal musicians born from an idea by Ebby Paduch and Robby Bobel in early 2008. The pair are joined by Roberto D’Amico on bass guitar, Ben Eifert on keyboards and Peter Langer on drums on what is a powerful debut release The Last Day. With Bobel handling most of the production duties and writing the vast majority of the album, you know from his work with Evidence One, Talon and others that this new album was indeed going to be something rather special. It features all those trademark Bobel sounds, big guitars, a thumbing bass line and with the vocals of Paduch, a real classic rock style vocal. The album opens up with a salvo of guitars and drums and bass lines as ‘The Calling’ gets us underway and instantly those might pipes of Paduch come to the forefront, as does the great guitar work of Bobel himself, which goes without saying and is just tremendous. The power infused Metal continues with the excellent ‘When Fires Will Touch The Night’, again big guitars from Bobel throughout the track and the monster rhythm section, this is purebred Melodic Metal. There are a few Progressive elements as you’d expect from anything with Bobel’s name on it and these are brought to light as soon as track three with the superb ‘Demon’s Dance’. A real corker of a track which will have them rocking in aisles when played live for sure and when Bobel’s is let loose on the solo’s, they just exude the class act that he is. Another track that mixes that prog and metal is the haunting metal of ‘Eyes Of A Stranger’. This is where Paduch really showcases his vocal might. Then it's the mighty rhythms section to show their muscle on ‘Alone Again’, which is one of my favourite songs off the album. A real powerhouse slice of classic METAL!!!. A true metal-heads delight. This album shows the true talent of Bobel in bucket loads and along with Paduch like his conjunction with Carsten Shultz on the Evidence One albums, he has found another vocalist to express his talent for writing for and bringing out the best in a vocalist. This is never more prominent than on another of my favourite songs ‘Feelings Came To Me’. A really great hard driven Melodic Metal track. The album never eases up one iota as each track unveils another great guitar moment or another great vocal one with the likes of ‘Reasons Why We Were Born’ and the track of the album for sure ‘The Eyes’, both stand out metal anthems. But the album doesn’t finish there, no there’s more to come with the title track ‘The Last Day’, which simmers away with a darker more edgier metal vibe, which is then carried on well into ‘Eternal Light ‘. Again a greater emphasis on the rhythm section with Langer pumping out a mighty double kick onslaught which is equalled with some monster bass lines from D’Amico. The album is rounded off
as it started with a guitar laden slice of Melodic Metal in ‘Fly
Away’, a more mellow outing which ends what is a great debut album and
marks up another great German metal band that will be the envy of the
rest of Europe. |
