Artist: Secret Illusion
   Title: Illusion
   Label: Rising Records

This is the debut album for this four piece from Greece.  Winning over the fans with their live shows and an earlier EP, Secret Illusion are ready to set the UK metal scene alight!  Having played alongside such bands as Phantom X and Sorrowful, these guys have cut their teeth on the live scene.

The album is very reminiscent of bands such as Nightwish and Within Temptation due to its reliance on the operatic intro to the album.  However, the rest of the album is very generic, standard metal, with its only difference being the use of keyboards throughout.  The vocalist has a lot of power in his voice although it is hardly realised throughout the album.  There are elements of power metal at times but regardless, this is still very standard European metal.

There is obvious skill in each of the musicians, including the vocalist, but there is a sense that at times they are not using all of their skills and are holding something back.  It would be nice to hear them use their full force as this would create a much different album.  I can’t really say about a favourite song as they all sound pretty similar to me, which is a shame as they have the ability to do so much more.
