   Label: Silver Wolf

Ever been to or had a party that's died on its legs and no-one knows what to do about it?  Well, here's the antidote for getting things going again ... 'Open Your Eyes Or Cover Your Head' by Shenaniganz.  Put it on, sit band and watch the place take off, because this is the perfect album to get even the most morose person to bop 'til they drop.

There's no mistaking the quality here, from the kicked in the nuts rauncher 'Roses Are Red', that oozes more attitude than a bunch of scratters hanging round the street corner, the 100 mph 'The Cost Of Rock' that claims the band still like Andy Warhol and that we should "open our mind"! why not ...

The early 'DC intro to 'Merry Go Round' lets slip where this band's influences lie, and when the tambourine slits in, Jet comes to mind as well.  Oh yeah, and just to make sure we get the message, why not ass a touch of Rage Against The Machine's 'Take The Power Back' as well.  All this and that's just the first 3 songs as well!!

To say there's no letting up either on 'We Are The Underground' is putting it mildly as it thuds its way via the drums, only slowing midway for a few seconds before it takes off again with even more mayhem than before.

You don't get time to catch your breath as 'Because I Am' ups the ante more, though the song should really be called "Pissing In The Wind", as it seems that's all the band want to so according to things.  never Mind, they seem to be doing that to other bands out there, such is the ferocity of the guitar and drums on the song.

Killer song 'Girl In The Front Row' couldn't sound any more of a 3 chord slow groover if it wanted to.  It's "couldn't give a f*ck" feel given out on vocals and the boot stomping drum beat echo early Oasis 'Cigarette And Alcohol', with the line ... "Jesus was a rock n' roller' ... making you wish that he had of been.  Blinding song.

Just to prove that the band aren't a one trick pony, they take the mood down a touch on 'Change', opening with a perfect slide guitar riff that takes up a Southern blues aura around it.  So laid back you don't want things to get back up again, but needless to say, they hit right back with the sleazy rock style that came before, 'Bavaria' and 'Don't Tell The Fire' fitting like a hand in glove.

Another 'DC sound alike on guitar, 'Lights' just proves what an influence the band have had on the crop of younger groups coming along now, and Shenaniganz do it just as well as anyone else out there at the moment.

The album is probably best described by the band themselves on their flyer, and believe me when I say it's spot on.  "Bad ass rock n' roll straight from the underground".  Need they say more?.
