Sheffield based Tikaboo Peak may be unknown to most of you at the moment,
but if they get the break they obviously deserve then they won't be
unknown for long.
This demo really shows what they are capable of. To call this simply
melodic rock is insulting to the band. This is just good old fashioned
rock, no DJ mixing, no rapping, just good clean lines of pure rock.
With Tikaboo Peak you have a bunch of very talented guys plugging in their
guitars and playing good clean quality rock.
This demo sounds so good and is just what the mainstream rock scene has
missed out on for such a long time.
Lead singer Dale's vocal range is very similar to that of Journey's Steve
Perry. But that's where the similarity ends. Tikaboo Peak have a much
altogether heavier edge to them.
Highlights on this demo are too many to list, but for me they would have
to include 'Dreamland'. A mix of lavish guitar riffs and rythmatic drums.
''Own World' shows the bands ability to take the tempo down a touch with
this, dare I say it, power ballad! Other worthy tracks are 'Damn Good
Memory to Lie' and the title track 'Paranoid Mind'.
'Safe and Sound' is another excellent track that really must be heard.
So if you are around the Sheffield area and see this band advertised then
check them out. If you've had enough of all this nu-metal nonsense and
just want to hear a great little classic rock band then check these guys
out.
One last point though before I close this review. Why the hell are these
guys still unsigned? Can someone please tell me the answer to this
question? From what I've just listened to these guys have as much talent
and promise as a lot of the bands I've heard signed to the likes of Z
Records and Now & Then over the last couple of years.
I've also had the good fortune to meet the band in person and what a
charming bunch of lads they are too.
They have the sound, they have the talent, they even have the looks and
personalities to go with it. So why do the people in power insist on
keeping their blinkers on? If you ask me they are losing out on a golden
opportunity and a lot of record sales as these guys to me are a dead cert
for success.
This little gem will be worn out pretty quickly because its one of those
CD's you really could just go on listening to all day.
It will take a very long time before I get tired of listening to this
that's for sure.
