Title: Voices Of Rock II - High And Mighty
   Label: Metal Heaven

Once again I mange to hear a project after a previous release, all work and no play that’s my problem.

So following on from the 2007 VOR debut, Michael Voss and Chris Lessmann release 'High And Mighty', featuring no less than ten of the finest melodic rock vocalists around.  Each one takes on a track apiece and stamps their mark well and truly across this album.

Tony Martin kicks off the album with 'Into The Light', a mid-tempo track with heavy guitar riffs and a gang vocal chorus.

'Shame On You' features Bert Heerink (who you ask??) The Vandenberg vocalist still has the pipes and lays down a fine performance on this wonderful melodic track.

What release could miss out the vocal talent of Joe Lynn Turner.  On 'Tonight' he produces the goods again, oozing pure class.  His voice has matured over the years and has a grittier rasp than those early Rainbow days. Another vocalist I can listen over and over again.

The whiskey soaked blues tones of Paul Shortino (aka Duke Fame) are all over 'Rock Me', a Def Leppard style tune, with a huge chorus and heavy guitar.  Rob Rock steps up for 'Remember Me', a power ballad of the first degree, smooth as silk and twice as hard.

'Lay You Down To Rest' features none other than Mitch Malloy and the quality just continues, with a chorus that just sticks in the head for days.  Surprisingly Tony Mills is featured on a more contemporary track, @In The Heart Of The Young' and even though he turns in another first rate vocal, the track just doesn’t work for me.

'Dirty Games' sees David Reece sounding better than a certain Mr Coverdale. Check out his new CD for further evidence of an underrated and oft overlooked vocalist.  One man I would not have thought about including if I was putting this project together is Paul Sabu, but the man makes me eat my words on 'Down The Drain'.  A simple chorus, guitar heavy and full of swagger and sneer, the song suits Sabu perfectly.

'Only 4 Ever' closes the album, (the promo doesn’t include Voss’s version of 'Maniac') featuring Torben Schmidt (Skagarack).  A smooth vocal and some great riffing make for an enjoyable finish.

This album features some powerful riffing and gigantic melodic choruses, enough to satiate the most ardent melodic rock fan.
