To many Dave Lee Roth was Van Halen, and when he and the band parted company in 1984, he set his sights on a solo career and continued to bring his own sense of fun to the rock world. To many he was the ultimate showman both on and off stage and this album brings together some of the best known tracks from both his Van Halen days and his solo career. The album has some big name contributors and some not so big. The resulting album is a worthy tribute to Diamond Dave. Featuring the likes of Enuff ZNuff, Tony Harnell, George Lynch, Vinny Appice and Jimmy Crespo to name but a few, these musicians should be more than familiar to all hard rock fans out there, and this line up alone should be enough to get you interested in the album. Fans will be familiar with all the tracks picked for this album but there are a couple of outstanding versions on the album worth checking out, firstly ‘ Hot For Teacher’ by Van Halen tribute band Hot For Teacher, and the storming version of ‘Shy Boy’ featuring George Lynch, Tony Harnell and Jason McMaster. Also the red neck version of ‘Take Your Whiskey Home’ by ‘American Dog’ deserves a mention. To sum it up, there are an awful lot of tribute albums out there and some are not worthwhile listening. Luckily enough this one is a must for all fans of Diamond Dave, despite the track listing not being quite the same order as on the CD.
