Hot
on the heels of their 2010 self-titled debut release, Australian Hard
Rockers return with their latest slab of unadulterated 80’s influence
rock as Jules Millis, Xavier Millis, Enzo Almanzi, Trent Wilson and Jim
Naish, once again show there is a still space in the melting pot of the
Melbourne music scene for great melody infused rock music. The
album takes over where the debut left off with the excellent opener
‘Cry Wolf’, where J Millis shows just what a great vocal talent he
really is as he brings that 80’s vibe kicking and screaming into the
now. This excellent mix of Hard Rock and AOR continue with the stunning ‘Strangers In The Night’, before taking a step down the mellower path with ‘Do You Remember’. Again heavily influenced by the 80's guitar based rock that we all loved (and still love) so very much. This
album is a little more diverse than its predecessor, showing the band aren’t
a one trick pony and this is brought to forefront with the likes of the
rockier ‘Reckless Nights’. A bigger pounding drum sound dominates
this song. Like I said about the bands debut, they aren’t trying to
reinvent the wheel, but are playing tribute to what Melodic Hard Rock is
all about. That being great licks, great songs and great musicianship, and this album
covers all those bases with ease. The album continues with the keyboard rich ‘How Far
I Run’ and the Def Leppard / Danger Danger influenced title track
‘Serenade’. The
keyboards of X Millis play a big part in the Westcoast fuelled
‘Show Your Cards’, before the big time rockin’ returns with the
excellent ‘Mistake’, before taking gently down in tempo with the ballad
‘Patiently’. |
