'Arrival' is the new opus from
Metallers WildeStarr, a band headed by six and four string maestro Dave
Starr and vocalist supreme London Wilde, together the pair have put
together a monster of a METAL album in ‘Arrival’.
The album is a blazing opus full of outstanding riffs from Starr but it’s the vocals power of Wilde that really stands out on this album. If you could imagine a female with the power of Rob Halford and the control of Geoff Tate, then that’s what Wilde brings to the table as a vocalist. From the opener ‘Rose In The Dark’ I was taken aback by the sheer power of the album with Starr burning up the fret board, whilst Wilde unleashes one of the most powerful controlled female vocal performances I’ve heard in ages. The album builds on this supreme start and excels on all levels as it continues with the title track ‘Arrival’, again Starr firing out the licks like there is no tomorrow with Wilde powering on thru with such style it makes me wonder where has she been with a talent like this. It’s metal all the way with ‘Touching God’, a towering vocal from Wilde leads this one a more sedate offering compared to what has gone before, while Starr once again produces the goods on both bass and lead guitar. It's all guns blazing once more with the titanic ‘Rise’, a blistering attack on the senses with Jim Hawthorn punishing the drum kit for some past crime it seems while Wilde gives us her biggest vocal so far on the album, this is where she gives Halford a run for his money. There is a lull in the power infused metal as Wilde shows her more mellow side vocally on the excellent almost symphonic ‘Down Of The Sun’. I said this was just a lull because the fire is once again ignited as the inferno of metal continues with ‘In This World’ and the superb ‘Generation Next’. If I had to pick one outstanding track from this album then ‘Nevermore’ would get my vote. A song that builds from humble beginnings a gathers momentum in true Melodic Metal style. The album closes with two metal monsters first up it’s Voice In The Silence’, a modern slice of pure metal with a Starr unleashing a six string assault, but again it’s the vocals of Wilde that take your breath away. The album closer ‘The Chain’, which finishes the album as it started with a thumping metal attack and rounds off one of the best Metal debuts of 2009, making this a band to watch out for in 2010 because Wilde Starr have definitely arrived big style.
