Straddling the line between rock and pop, Robbie proves he still has a
lot more life in him with this newest offering. By now everyone should be
more than familiar with the hit single 'Rock DJ' which is the first to be
taken from this album.
A shocking (?) video ensured mass interest by getting it played after the
9 pm watershed only. Both the song and the video were typical of a lot of
his hits, with its tongue in cheek approach to the singer himself. Even
without the video the song would have been a massive hit as it graces both
the pop and rock charts, and most radio playlists.
All the songs on the album are written by Robbie, and a lot of them seem
to be taken from his personal experiences. Under all that bravado and
hi-jinx there really does seem to be a lad that cares what people think
about him.
'If it's hurting You' seems to be written with a specific past love and
lost of his in mind, whereas 'Knutsford City Limits' tells us that he is a
working class boy who remains true to his roots and is determined not to
forget where he came from.
The song 'Kids' features the special guest appearance of none other than
Kylie Minogue, but don't hold this against him. The two actually sound
quite good together on this one, and with its slightly heavier chorus
makes this a likely choice for the next single? I'm sure a funky video
would be knocked up to ensure this also is a hit. There's enough beat in
the background to make this a dance track as well as being very catchy and
easy to pick up.
'Lets love be your Energy' is also a very likely single in the pressing.
The very fact that the upcoming UK tour by Robbie is completely sold out
indicates the strength of his popularity amongst all the age groups and
will feature heavily in the album charts leading up to Xmas.
