The
names of Mark Sweeney and Michael Voss are well know throughout the
Melodic and Hard Rock world and have known each other for some time.
The thought of doing something together was always talked about but never
saw the light of day. That was until the pair began working together on
Sweeney’s 2009 solo album which Voss produced. It
was this pairing that finally helped them decide to put together a Metal album, but not
just any Metal album, they would unite the very best in the Hard Rock and
Metal world on one titanic project, and thanks to Voss’s network of
contacts over the years as producer and musician, they brought together
30 of the most respected names in Rock and here they are ... Vocals:
Paul Di'Anno (Ex-Iron Maiden), Tony Martin (Ex-Black Sabbath), Jeff
Scott Soto (Ex-Y. Malmsteen, Talisman), Rob Rock (Impelitteri), Mark
Boals (Ex-Y.Malmsteen),Tim Ripper Owens (Ex-Judas Priest), Paul Shortino
(Ex-Quiet Riot), Mark Fox (Ex-Shakra), Michaela Schober (Tanz der
Vampire), Jean-Marc Viller (Callaway), Pearl and Molly Duncan. On
bass: Tony Franklin (Ex-Blue Murder, Robert Plant), Mat Sinner (Primal
Fear), Matthias
Rethmann (Ex-LeeZ, Silver), Nils Middelhauve (Xandria), Neil Murray
(Whitesnake), Barend Courbois (Vengeance). On
guitars: Jgor Gianola (U.D.O.), Andy Midgeley (Power Quest), Ira Black
(Ex-Vicious Rumors, Lizzy Borden), Torsten Koehne (Edens Curse), Marco
Wriedt (Axxis), Doc
Heyne (Biss), Tommy Denander
(Dan Reed, Paul Stanley), Nadja Kossinskaja (Peter Maffay), Freddy
Scherer (Gotthard), Olaf Lenk (At Vance), George Solonos (Tommy Lee). Keys:
Alessandro Delveccio (Glenn Hughes, Ian Paice), Ferdy Doernberg (Axel
Rudi Pell,
Rough Silk). Drums:
Gereon Homann (Eat the Gun). Not
a bad line-up in anyone's books you might say, but does the album meet
the quality of the artists involved? You bet it does. This is a
Metal-heads delight the variety of styles and genres covered, all in the name
of Metal and is a tribute to the songwriting attributes of both Sweeney and
Voss. For
the loves of everything Symphonic then the opener ‘Sirens’ and
further on ‘Wolfony’ will flood your boat. Then for the old school metallers
the likes of ‘Slam Down The Hammer’, the Braveheart inspired
‘Let Me Die’ and the thumping ‘Dark Horizons will delight you.
For the Battle Hymn
lovers then ‘The Crow’ is a track you've gotta check out and for those Hard Rock fans
out there, well it simply has to be ‘Reptile’s Kiss’.
However, if like me you like a variety of
metal styles then you will simply embrace the album for all it's worth, raise the horns and
salute all that is Metal and join the pack, and maybe give a little howl
at the moon as well. Fantastic! |
