With the arrival of such bands
as Evanescence, Nightwish and the like, the world of female fronted rock
has seen an assurgency of bands that have tried to have the same success as
Nightwish and Evanescence, with just a few breaking into the mainstream.
But now a band, which started out as a cyberspace project, are about to
take the world by storm with their new album 'Inside Warrior' and that band
is Xanima.
The bands mix of vibrant prog and mellow pop metal is just screaming out radio airplay. If you could mix the likes of Enigma, Kate Bush and the airy side of Aimee Mann then you’d have the soulful vocals of Jade Ell. This lady sure can sing and I mean sing no squeal or grunts, just harmonious melodies that drift on the wind. Jade and fellow band member Pelle Händén have put together a stirring collection of great progressive rock songs that warm the very cockles of the heart. As the album opens up with ‘The Deed And The Damage’ it’s clear that this is a very special album indeed. As far as taking Progressive Rock to the next stage of its development the stirring keyboards of Händén mixed will Ell’s vocals is just awe-inspiring and is carried on not just on the opening track but throughout the album. With
tracks like ‘Poltergeist’, ‘Born Into The Skin’ and
‘Exodus’, the band's mix of Electronica and Progressive Pop will not be
to everyone’s tastes, but bear with this album as it is a grower and the
stirring tones of the title track ‘Inside Warrior’ are just
superb. No doubt like me you’ll find yourself playing it time and time
again. It’s
great background music when your doing you chores around the house and
makes the day more bearable. The new wave of Progressive Rock is amongst
us so give in to the Xanima and calm the warrior inside you. |
