As the new wave of British metal bands makes a stand and tries to propel the invasion of European metal, one band is leading the fight on the beaches, that band is Zero Cipher. A band that refuses to comply with the whole band genre thing and just play what they want, how they want. This is the band's second release and their most imaginative to date. Mixing the traditional metal with electronic sounds make ‘Diary of a Sadist’ an interesting listen. 'It's metal Jim ... but not as we know It!’’ The album opens up with a really meaty metal track ‘Kiss And Tell’ that just rampages through the speakers. Then changes direction with the doom laden ‘Single White Female’, and the death metal ‘The Thrill, The Kills, The Rapture’. This change in direction from track to track not only shows the bands flexibility, but more their ability to be their own band and not be stereotyped. The band shows their softer side with a surprise package on the album, the pop rock track ‘It's No Secret’. Which also just happens to be one of my favorite tracks off the album. If the band pulled off any tracks from the album to use as singles, it would give a false sense of where the band are coming from, as each track on the album shows a different side to the band. If there was a genre for multifarious then this band would fit the bill perfectly.
