A
Fragile Mind is the bands eagerly awaited third release and with this new
release the band have a new vocal talent in the shape of new boy Fred
Marshal. Marshal has put his stamp on the Zero Hour sound on this album;
although the main men in the band Jasun and Troy Tipton have put the music
together Marshal has had an immediate input into the bands sound with his
vocals adding an added depth to the overall sound of the band.
The album
opener 'There For Me' is a prime example of the power of the band from its
heavy beginnings and Marshals sharp vocals make you sit up and take notice
from the off.
The album
continues you along the progressive path without leaving you much time to
catch your breath after the opener with 'Destiny Is Sorrow' another heavy
bass and drum beat throughout but it’s the vocals of Fred Marshal that
continue to make their mark on this album.
'Brain
Surgery' gives you a real sample of the vocal range of Marshal as he goes
from all out metal fortissimo to a more gentle somber sound then to a
narrative with great ease and makes for a superb track.
The album
goes from strength to strength as each track unfolds from the bombastic
'Losing Control' and the intense thought- provoking 'Twice The Pain' the
two instrumental tracks 'Somnecrophobia' and 'Intrinsic' show the vast
musical talent of guitarist Jasun Tipton and together with the rest of the
band pull all the stops on both tracks.
The track
that breaks up the two instrumentals is the title track ' A Fragile Mind'
and is far my favourite track off the album as it starts off slowly and
meanders along then it unleashes the raw power of Zero Hour and really
shows how the band has progressed from their two previous releases and how
they have thrown away that techi mantle and really grasped at a more
richer heavy sound.
Good Stuff!
