Nashville Pussy have been making albums longer than most My Chemical Romance fans have been on this earth and they are probably the greatest rock n’ roll band that most people have never heard of. Sounding like AC/DC’s illegitimate redneck cousin, ‘the Pussy’ are everything a rock n’ roll band used to, and should, be. Recorded live at the world-famous Key Club in Hollywood, California, this is Nashville Pussy at their alcohol-fuelled best and while formerly great rock bands are now penning ballads for hit movies fresh after a stint in rehab, Nashville Pussy sing songs about fast cars, cheap booze and even cheaper women and show no signs of slowing down. Frontman Blaine Cartwright wastes little time with introductions, on-stage banter or anything like that – Nashville Pussy play rock n’ roll and this exactly what we get – 19 songs of in your face rock belted out one after the other with barely enough time to down another whiskey. Songs like ‘Piece of Ass’, ‘Hate And Whiskey’, ‘The Bitch Just Kicked Me Out’ and the brilliantly-titled ‘I’m Gonna Hitchhike Down to Cincinnati and Kick the Shit Outta Your Drunk Daddy’ epitomise the sex, drugs and rock n’ roll attitude better than any other band out there at the moment.

Of course, despite being the frontman, Cartwright is well aware that most people’s focus is rarely on him and rather on the two beauties that stand on his right and left. To say that guitarist Ruyter Suys and new bass player Karen Cuda are easy on the eyes would be an understatement and the large amounts of cleavage shots that are included during the performance are certainly no accident, but this is not to detract from their playing. Suys, Cuda and the rest of the band are more than competent players and despite their brash and energetic stage performance, they manage to stay completely tight throughout. If you’re a regular gig-goer however, watch this DVD at your peril as afterwards, whenever you attend a gig that you think is going to be a rock n’ roll show, chances are you might leave a bit disappointed after seeing how the masters do it. Make sure you do attend one though – Nashville Pussy’s co-headline tour in April with The Supersuckers which is sure to be one of the most rocking nights of your life.

There’s some really good bonus features on here too, including backstage footage from their last European tour, a mini road documentary of their Australian tour with Rose Tattoo and some extra songs shot live in Canada but the most entertaining is footage of the band being interviewed by Lemmy. This is a must see if only for Lemmy’s hilarious joke at the end
