Probably one of the biggest Heavy Metal bands of the last 25 or so years to come out of Britain are Barnsley’s Saxon. Led by the ultimate frontman Biff Byford the band have risen above all the internal problems of the initial band split that saw the two factions go under one banner of Saxon, although to most fans the true nature of Saxon has always been the one with Biff leading the way ahead. 'To Hell And Back' takes you back to the making of the bands 'Lionheart' album, an album that once again showed the might and force of the legend that is Saxon. But this DVD is so much more than just a "making of" the album, it features a mouth-watering five hours plus of footage. If that doesn't get the fans frothy at the mouths with excitement I don't know what will! This release includes such a vast array of bonus material it's hard to know where to begin, it's just such a fantastic package and cracking great value for money. The first DVD in this twin pack is split into two parts, aptly named "The Movie" and "The Soundtrack", the first half, or should I say "The Movie" includes the "making of" the videos for ‘Beyond The Grave’ and ‘Witchfinder General’, footage from the bands appearance at the mighty Wacken festival, Saxon's tour in Russia and their home-coming tour of England. "The Soundtrack" section of the first DVD includes such classics as 'Lionheart', 'Princess Of The Night’, 'Wheels of Steel’, ‘Dogs Of War’ and ‘747 Strangers In The Night’ to name just a few, all that and we're still only on the first disc! The second DVD disc includes even more delights for all the die-hard Saxon fans out there. Starting with video clips from 'Beyond the Grave', 'Witchfinder General', 'If I Was You', 'Let Me Feel The Power', and also the newly recorded version of 'I've Got To Rock To Stay Alive’, featuring the vocal talents of Lemmy, Angry Anderson and Andi Deris. Other highlights off this monstrous DVD are Saxon on stage with Doro for their rendition of Judas Priest's 'You’ve Got Another Thing Coming', the bands appearance at the Rocksound Festival with 12 thumping slices of Saxon Heavy Metal, as well as two songs from the bands appearance at the Rock For Asia show. All in all this bumper package is a must for all Saxon fans both young and old and shows the band at their finest, although I have to admit the Doro song alone does it for me. |
