Band:
Velvet Revolver & Backyard Babies Venue:
The Hammersmith Apollo, London, UK Date:
2 September 2004
The concert got started off with
the support band Backyard Babies, which just seemed to get off to a good
start and got the crowd going.
The
Backyard Babies were on for about an hour before Velvet Revolver came
onstage. When they did come onstage they announced that they weren’t
either Guns & Roses or Stone Temple Pilots, but they are Velvet Revolver,
which had the whole crowd in uproar and set off a great night.
They
started their first set off with “Sucker Train For Blues”. As soon as they
started the crowd cheered. You could feel the atmosphere in the whole
place. For the rest of the first set the crowd were loving it, as after
they did a song, they would talk to the crowd to keep them entertained.
Scott
Weiland has a real presence onstage. He gets everywhere. The
same with the rest of the band who kept running around the whole
stage for most of the set. If you didn’t know who they were, you wouldn’t
of guessed they were late 30’s with the way they kept running around the
stage.
The
song which stood out was 'Fall To Pieces' because before they played it, they announced that this song will be the next single and the crowd
went wild. After they played 'Fall To Pieces', they played 'Big Machine',
and then 'Set Me Free'. Then the band went off and crowd where chanting
for the band to come back on. As soon as they did the crowd went
crazy cheering and all, and when Slash came onstage he started playing
'Over The Hills And Far Away' by Led Zepplin. Then after they did that
riff for about a minute they played there single 'Slither'.
The
crowd went crazy when they started playing 'Slither'. It seemed like all
the crowd were singing along with the band, which was a great feeling.
They then played 'Dirty Little Thing' and went offstage for a second time.
Which I thought was a bit weird but cool at the same time. But the crowd
were screaming for the band to come back on and when they did Slash
played ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ by Queen.
The rest of the band didn’t know
what was going on and looked lost until they start playing ‘It’s So Easy’.
To finish the concert off they played ‘Negative Creep’ by Nirvana.
Then they went offstage for the last time. Scott Weiland left the siran on
his megaphone and that’s how the concert ended.
My
own opinion if anyone says rock died a long time ago, well Velvet Revolver
has certainly brought Rock back from the dead.
