EVIDENCE ONE

Hailing from Germany we had Evidence One, the newest brainchild of lead singer Carsten Schulz (formerly of Domain) and Frontline guitarist Robby Boebel.

Prior to today we knew very little about this band and hadn’t had a chance to check out any of their songs. However after seeing the band perform they had no sooner left the stage when we rushing over to the CD stall to make a well chosen purchase of their debut album.

Still on a high from the blistering set we’d had laid on for us by the mighty Talon, Evidence One sure had their work cut out for them following an act like that. Introduced by some chap from Radio Caroline who seemed to know his stuff but went on a bit, the band came forth and showed us they weren’t kidding when they launched into their opening song.

Within seconds they had the crowd whipped back up into a frenzy of excitement once more. If these two bands were anything to go by then we were surely in for a cracking day today. Considering a lot of the bands in the past have been from the softer side of the Melodic Rock genre, Evidence One were more akin to Helloween when they launched into ‘Like Never Before’. Whoah watch those fingers ride those fret boards. Magnificent.

The band proved that they could control their songs with such precision, and yet still allow the passion and the power to flow freely through their music. I personally prefer seeing these more lively bands perform, because, they still retain the melody in their songs, but they combine it with such power and aggressive guitars that you have to respect them.

The songs were mean and moody one minute and then fast and furious the next.  For a band that started out as a studio project it’s grand to see they took that step forward and were persuaded to perform live for us here today. Fans of Harem Scarem would have probably enjoyed the song ‘Spend The Top With Me’ a lot more, as it was one of the more AOR orientated songs the band included in their set.

Lead singer Carsten has the looks and commanded the attention of the fans in much the same way that hair band hero’s Axel Rose and Sebastian Bach did in their glory days. This guy certainly knows how to work a crowd when he sets his mind to it.

Not sure if we will be lucky enough to see this band perform over in the UK again because they aren’t actually signed to Now & Then at the minute. There’s few bands I would actually travel abroad to see perform live but Evidence One are one of the exceptions.

If you weren’t lucky enough to catch them perform live here today then do yourself a favour and check out the album ‘Criticize The Truth’. It will be money well spent if you like your rock fresh, exciting and full of guitar and drum driven power.
