LOST WEEKEND

Before we knew it 7 o’ clock was here and so were Lost Weekend. Having heard their new album ‘New Religion’ we were looking forward with some interest to hearing them play live today.

Looking like Gary Moore’s younger brother lead singer Paul Uttley gave us a performance mainly consisting of smooth classic rock tracks spanning the last 3 albums by the band with a few new ones slipped in for good luck. Indeed live the band sound a lot more appealing than on CD. Although good, the CD hadn’t drove me wild in the aisles, but today’s performance changed my mind about this band and I will certainly be keeping an eye out for any gigs they do in the North of England in future.

Lost Weekend aren’t strangers to the Gods and had performed at the 2000 festival. I think the bands more traditional melodic/classic rock sound softened the hearts of a lot of people here today who found them a little easier on the ear than the full force rocking machine that Pride has just given us. It was a more paced and relaxing set which allowed you to enjoy it and savour the tunes as opposed to feeling an adrenalin rush on a roller-coaster ride of tunes.

A few people complained that the band had played a very safe set here today. However if you know what you’re good at and there’s people out there who dig it then why not. Don’t knock them just because this might not be your own personnel taste in rock. There were plenty who did appreciate their set and were glad of the chance to hear the band perform such a solid set.
