The
weather may have been damp outside but the atmosphere inside this packed
venue tonight was that of anticipation for one of the best Iron Maiden
tribute bands around. No matter where they perform in the North East of
England, the crowds just seem to follow, and they are never disappointed.
As the time just passes 9.00pm the band hit the stage opening up with “I'm
on my way” and then it’s straight into a rousing “2 minutes to midnight”.
The crowd soon warmed to the band although the sound quality out front was
bit poor. Thankfully this was soon put right and by the time the band
launched headlong into the classic “Wrathchild”, the sound was much
improved.
Then it
was back to the Bruce Dickinson tracks with “Number of the Beast”, “Can I
play with madness”, and the “Evil that men do”. Then they swept us over
to the Paul Dianno years with rendition of “Phantom of the opera” that was
delivered with such perfection and was so note to note close it was
breathtaking.
Making
sure that their set was not stuck in the past, shortly before the band
took their well deserved ten minute break, they played something more
up-to-date with two tracks taken from the new “Dance of Death” album,
“Montsequr” and “Rainmaker”. After the break it was back to business with
the eternally popular “Bring your daughter to the slaughter”, closely
followed by “The Trooper”.
It
might be raining outside but the spirit of Rio was in the room tonight as
the crowd sang along to “Fear of the dark”. Of course any Iron Maiden
tribute band worth their salt wouldn’t be so if the didn’t play “Iron
Maiden”, and so they do. The next song “Wasted years” was dedicated to a
friend in the crowd by the name of Dave who promptly stood up made himself
known to the rest of us. The band then finished off the set with the
classic "Running Free".
But the crowd wanted more and more they got with “Hallowed be thy name”
and “Run to the hills”. The band left the stage to the thundering
round of applause, but the crowd don’t want the night to end and with the
time well past eleven o'clock there it just time for one more so
“Sanctuary” was the bands final offering for tonight’s performance.

I have
seen Maiden England on a number of occasions and they never fail to give
110% at every show. I’m not usually a big fan of tribute bands but when
a band not only give a solid stage performance, but also manage to
captivate the true spirit of the band they are paying tribute to, you
really have to give credit where it is due. I highly recommend you go
check them out the next time they are playing near you because I promise
you’ll not be disappointed. |
