Band:
Marilyn Manson Venue:
Braehead Arena, Glasgow, Scotland Date:
2 June 2003
When Marilyn Manson announced 2 UK headline gigs and a festival
appearance ... our tickets were booked before you could say 'God of F**k'.
I've seen the band on every album tour since 1997, however these have all
been festival appearances and damnit I wanted to see a proper full length
gig ... with a roof on!
The trip to Glasgow was a long one, but was it going to be worth it? Yup!
It was. Our expectations were fulfilled.
The queue to get into the arena was kept entertained by the predictable
presence of bible-bashing protesters singing hymns and telling us we were
going straight to hell. cool :)
First up on stage was Queen Adreena featuring a screechy little woman in a
nightdress. They were truly terrible.
Touring on the back of the latest album the Grotesque Burlesque, the
Manson image this time round took in elements of Nazi Germany and
glamorous cabaret acts.
On stage was the biggest bass drum I've ever seen, it must have been about
10 feet tall ... and you could feel every beat through the soled of your
feet!
Mr Manson himself seemed to be somewhat restrained this time
round ... maybe the outfits he was wearing prevented easy access ... if you
see what I mean ;)
The theatrics were there, running around on stage like a man possessed,
rising 40 feet into the air on extending 'legs', but the best and most
surreal moment was soon to reveal itself, while the band played, Manson
vanished off stage and came back wearing an ankle length coat. Aha, hear
it comes ... something rude's going to happen ... no one could have
prepared themselves for this. Under the coat was an extra leg, yes Marilyn
Manson, the most evil man in the Media was doing a tribute to Rolf Harris!
Strutting around like Jake the Peg.
It was surreal, to say the least, other highlights included Siamese
backing singers, Nazi can-can dancers, scantily clad drummer girls and
Manson wearing Mickey Mouse ears.
Once again Marilyn Manson didn't fail to entertain, the sound quality was
fantastic, the show was entertaining and the songs were all there from The
Beautiful People to the current single Mobscene.
Rumour has it that there's going to be a UK tour later in the year. Will
we be there? Oh yes!
